RIBCAGE AND THORACIC DYSFUNCTIONS

HANDS-ON MANAGEMENT

Ended
250 US dollars
North Dupont Boulevard

Service Description

Precise examination and evaluation of joint mobility dysfunction is an important factor in the differential diagnosis of thoracic and ribcage pain1. Recognizing referral pattern will also suggest non-musculoskeletal origin. Successful examination results to a success in management. It is well established in literature that mobility dysfunction of the thoracic vertebra and rib articulations have been linked to a variety of pain syndromes of the upper extremity, lumbar, and the cervical spine as well as well as cause of atypical chest pain2. The presence of a symptomatic joint dysfunction would suggest a musculoskeletal origin contributory to patient’s chief complaint. In some cases, this will result to chest wall pain, musculoskeletal pain, thoracic outlet syndrome, and intercostal neuralgia3. Despite the importance of correctly diagnosing a spinal dysfunction, limited research exists related to physical therapists' ability to reliably identify a joint exhibiting signs of dysfunction thus providing appropriate treatment. The purpose of this course is to provide a hands-on experience in the assessment and management of thoracic spine and rib cage associated pain resulting to dysfunction.
